Hot Air, Hot Blues, and Cool Brews

After taking a one year break, the Balloons and Blues festival is returning to Monroe June 17-18. The festivities will be held at the Green County fairgrounds with a great line up of locally and internationally known Blues Bands and about 12-15 balloon pilots interested in attending again. Bands in the lineup are Bird Dog Blues Band, Left Wing Bourbon, Brent Johnson and the Call Up, Nick Moss and of course the locally known band The Jimmys.

The weekend includes a variety of food and beverage vendors, a craft show and the car show on Saturday. The event will also sport a bicycle ride to help support cancer treatment in Green County. The event this year is being put on by Arc of Green County, whose mission is to provide funding for area handicapped and disabled citizens.

Arc of Green County is looking for businesses and/or individuals to sponsor the balloons. Balloon sponsors will have the opportunity of crewing a balloon. Names of all supporters and sponsors will be highlighted at the event. To inquire about support and sponsor levels, contact Nick Faessler at 608.214.3852.

ADMISSION IS ALWAYS FREE THANKS TO ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL SPONSORS!

The buzz about Sena is poised to go nationwide as word is getting out about her incendiary performances at clubs and festivals across the Midwest and beyond, as well as the uniformly enthusiastic response to her brilliant Blind Pig debut recording, Leave The Light On- voted 2012’s Blues Blast Magazine’s “Best New Artist Debut Release” award winner.

The-Jimmys

Next, we invite you sit back and soak up the soulful sounds of The Jimmys (Visit their Website & FaceBook page). THE JIMMYS are what you get when you combine (A) the seasoned keyboard/Hammond organ talents of Jimmy Voegeli, long time member of Westside Andy/Mel Ford Band, (B) the drummer from The Georgia Satellites, (C) the four-piece horn section from Clyde Stubblefield’s Band, and (D) the expertise of southern Wisconsin’s finest bass guitar, and (E) the legendary blues guitarist Perry Weber on six-strings and vocals.

Named the “2012 Best Swing/Big Band Ensemble” by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry, the band just earned five new 2013 Madison Area Music Awards:

belairs

Saturday’s festivities come to a head when The Everly Brothers of the Blues- The Belairs (Visit their Website or FaceBook). Fronted by brothers Dick and Dave Pruitt on bass and electric guitars, with Michael Cherry on drums, the Bel Airs play a danceable mix with an authentic but eclectic bluesy-country-soul-and-rock-n-roll sound influenced by the likes of Wilson Picket, Slim Harpo, Howlin’ Wolf and Johnny Cash.

The Bel Airs will marked their 30th year performing together in 2011. The Pruitt brothers’ harmony vocal style sets them apart in the contemporary music scene–leading one reviewer to refer to them as the “Everly Brothers of Blues”. David’s “big guitar” and Dick’s howling vocals over soulful, right-on rhythm playing make this trio a powerhouse.
